The WRITE Affiliates

The WRITE Affiliates was founded in 2005, by J.L. Slipak, and quickly became a local resource for authors and businesses alike. Over the following years, their services stretched to include Youth Writing Clubs, Adult Writing Workshops, and Independent publishing with the 'birth' of Dark Dove Publishing. Although not much was done through Dark Dove Publishing in the beginning, its founder focused on making connections with the publishing world while learning all she could about self-publishing, book publicity, marketing, and distribution. She took courses and programs to become certified in freelance writing and editing. Her training didn't stop there. She added forensic studies, courses on mystery writing and romance, writing for children, and creative writing, while publishing four books of her own: A Tribute, Our World of Katie, Light of Dark, Echoes of Darkness, and several articles about the necessity for creativity and play in the educational system. This probably took longer than it would for most, but all was accomplished while running a dance school for twenty-five years and raising a special needs daughter and two step-children. She continues to improve her skills and hone her craft by taking courses through local universities and colleges; and, through online studies. When Dark Dove Publishing began to take center stage (sorry for the pun), The WRITE Affiliates gladly took the back seat to manage the business. The WRITE Affiliates is proud to offer their Watchdog Services to help their customers be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.

"Finding Inspiration at Every Turn"

The WRITE Affiliates began as a resource facility for authors, writers, libraries, local businesses, and schools. They often work one on one with writers to hone their craft. They became ghostwriters and still work with other authors bringing their work to fruition.  They organize workshops, seminars, and teaching events that help new young writers get started. Schools invite us in to run a youth writing workshop and it is incredible to see how many kids want to write books/stories professionally. Inspired by this the Young Writers' Club was born and periodically runs locally (so far) for three months at a time. Through their local library, they meet monthly with kids who love to write. Together, they create a chapter, or middle-grade story (depending on age) that could if time allows, end up published. Students between the ages of ten and fourteen spend an evening learning all there is to know about writing for specific audiences. Topics such as story development, plot, character development, setting, pacing, and even cover design are taught.

We also focus on five main areas of writing. Our area of expertise is responsible for the following:

Web Watchdogs, Research, Reading & Reviews, Interviews, Teaching & Training; and, Editing. We also do character art, cover design, and campaigns (publicity). We are responsible for illustrating The Adventures of Iggy Squiggles Special Editions, which are currently being rebranded and reissued as chapter books. We are also responsible for most covers published by Dark Dove Publishing.

The other day, I clicked on a website looking for specifications for a product I needed. I began to read up on the product and found the first error. I dismissed this error since it does happen when creating a website; you're in a hurry, your fingers get tangled up, or, you had a long previous night and not enough coffee. Whatever... I continued reading, and yes, I found another error, then another, and even another... I sat back in my chair not only disappointed in the company; but, my focus as a customer changed instantly.

My thoughts were, if they made silly mistakes with spelling/grammar, just how good were the products and services they offered? And, just how professional are they if they didn't take the time to edit their own content BEFORE customers found their site? My reaction may seem strange to you, but the truth is, this commonly affects sales. A company may have a great product, but its presentation of the product was so terrible, customers don't stick around to find this out.

And therein lies the problem. Many times, people create their own websites, or, they hire incompetent individuals to basically handle their livelihoods. We get it! It can be expensive. However, finding silly errors causes customers to reconsider visiting the site, and nine out of ten times, they end up going somewhere else. The company loses a future contact and future income. The last thing a company needs to do is push customers toward their competitors. To avoid this, websites need constant monitoring by competent editors, or watchdogs, as in our case.

That's where we come in. If you want to have the best customer experience, you need a watchdog to monitor your website, edit mistakes, and ensure error-free content.  Consider hiring us, The WRITE Affiliates. We offer services at a reasonable cost. Contact us for a quote today and get yourself a watchdog now!
