-The Written Word: The Written Word is a course designed for writers who want to improve their skills and knowledge of the language. In this course, you will learn how to:

Create lists of helpful words that can enrich your vocabulary and enhance your style.

 

  • Use word associations to generate ideas, connect concepts, and expand your imagination.

 

  • Identify popular topic families and groups of subjects for various genres and audiences.

 

  • Avoid passive words that weaken your sentences and make your writing dull.

 

  • Recognize the difference between weak writing and strong writing, and how to apply effective techniques to improve your clarity, coherence, and impact.

 

  • Eliminate fluff words that add unnecessary length and complexity to your writing.

 

  • Master tenses, grammar, punctuation, and spelling to avoid common mistakes and ensure accuracy and consistency.

 

  • Learn how to deal with tricky words that are often confused, misused, or misunderstood. 

By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of the written word and how to use it to create engaging and compelling texts.


-Writing for Publication: Learn how to prepare your articles and  manuscripts for submission, find the right market for your work, write a query letter and a synopsis, and learn how to deal with rejection and feedback. You will discover how to craft engaging and informative articles for different audiences and platforms. Whether you are interested in freelance work or pursuing a career in journalism, you will benefit from this course. You will learn how to pitch your ideas, research your topics, structure your stories, and edit your work. You will also get feedback from experienced instructors and peers. By the end of this course, you will have a portfolio of articles that you can use to showcase your skills and find opportunities in the writing industry.

-The Business of Writing: Learn how to manage your writing career, from setting goals and deadlines, to marketing yourself and your work, to negotiating contracts and royalties. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a writer, you need to know the basics of the business of writing. This course will teach you how to write different forms of professional documents, such as proposals, reports, and invoices. You will also learn how to negotiate with clients, manage your time and budget. By the end of this course, you will have a portfolio of samples and templates that you can use in your future projects.

-Character Development: This course will teach you how to create compelling and realistic characters for your stories. You will learn how to develop your characters' personalities, motivations, goals, conflicts, and arcs. You will also learn how to use dialogue, description, and action to reveal your characters' traits and emotions. By the end of this course, you will have a deeper understanding of your characters and how to make them come alive on the page.

-World Building: This course will teach you the basics of world building, a creative process that involves designing fictional settings for stories, games, or other media. World building is the process of designing the physical, social, political, economic and other aspects of a fictional world that make it believable and immersive for your audience.  You will learn how to create realistic and consistent worlds that support your story and characters, and how to avoid common pitfalls and mistakes. You will also explore different genres, themes, and techniques of world building, such as fantasy, sci-fi, historical, and dystopian. By the end of this course, you will have developed your own original world and a portfolio of world building materials.
